Why Forget-me-knot day?
Forget: Many people forget that adults, who were abused as children, often need help to do those things others take for granted. Some don’t even realise. The human brain continues to develop into a person’s twenties. Childhood abuse in all its forms as well as neglect profoundly impacts the developing brain, arresting emotional development and one’s ability to make healthy and empowering choices. Sadly for many survivors it’s not just a matter of getting over it! Me: Many survivors suffer from low self-esteem, struggling with a sense of their own value and worth. ASCA works to empower survivors, encouraging nurture and self-care while also establishing a healthy support network. Knot: When children are abused they become confused and life, even in adulthood can be chaotic and tangled. ASCA wants all Australians to work together to untangle the knot of child abuse and to support survivors, as they break free from the shame and the stigma of their child abuse.
Forget-me-knot Day for 2011 will be Saturday 19 November, but we there will be a whole week of activities in from Monday 14 to Sunday 20 November..
